Planning Early for Halloween Parties

Plan early for your Halloween party this year! Create a timeline of tasks to accomplish before, during, and after your celebration. Get organized, cover all of the “to-do’s,” and ensure a great Halloween party for all.
  • Six to eight weeks before party: Select a venue, date, time, theme, and budget for your Halloween party. Consider themes such as a haunted house, cemetery, or spooky masquerade ball. If you plan to hire a party planner, caterer, or entertainers, contact them at this time.
  • Four to six weeks before party: Determine the number of guests and the guest list. Order the Halloween party cake from your local bakery. Select a stylish, digital Halloween invitation to send to your guests. Request that all guests wear costumes based on the theme. Arrange for party rentals like a fog machine or table linens.
  • Three to four weeks before party: Make a to-do list for the party itself. Include decorations, centerpieces, food, cake, dessert, drinks, paper goods, favors, candy, entertainment, and activities.
  • One to two weeks before party: Purchase Halloween decorations including centerpieces, crepe streamers, spiders, cobwebs, witches, goblins, vampires, and ghosts. Visit your local farm or grocery store for pumpkins to carve.
  • Week of the party: Start to make food for the party. Make room in the freezer to preserve the pre-made items. Put together the favors for your Halloween party. Call to confirm any vendors. Carve your pumpkins. Test out any special party lighting (colored bulbs, black light, or fairy lights).
  • Day before the party: Pick up balloons from your local party store. Set up your decorations. Place any non-perishable food and drink items on the tables.
  • Day of the party: Pick up the Halloween party cake. Prepare to pay vendors any remaining fees. Set up the perishable food and make the cocktails and punch. Queue up the music. Adjust party lighting. Have fun!
Organizing and writing down all of your party planning tasks makes the whole process a lot easier. Good luck with your Halloween party preparations!
