Go Green! Another Last Minute Halloween Costume Idea

Need a last minute costume idea? Go green with last minute costume ideas that will show off your ecological mindset. This is a great way to create a homemade costume with materials you can find around the house.
Here are a few last minute Halloween costume ideas to get you to the party in glorious green style!
  • Recycling Bag: For the ultimate last minute Halloween costume, gather supplies such as a large clear plastic trash bag, green pants, a green shirt, a white piece of card stock paper, a green tie, and a green permanent marker. Trace and cut out a recycling logo (find an example online) onto a piece of white card stock paper and use a glue gun to attach it to your plastic bag. Make the logo large enough for people to recognize from across the room. Cut arm and leg holes in the bag. Don your green clothing, fill the bag with clean recyclables of your choice such as empty water bottles, milk cartons, soda cans, and pieces of wrinkled paper. Secure the top of the bag loosely around your neck with the green tie. With just a few simple steps you can outfit yourself in a creative costume and remind your fellow Halloween party-goers to recycle!
  • Mother Earth: For a last minute homemade costume, dress up as Mother Earth to show love and respect for the environment. You can achieve a classic Mother Earth “look” in a variety of ways. Combine the colors of the earth such as green for grassy land, brown for soil, and blue for water. Wear either a blue, brown, or green skirt, and the same color shirt. Create a floral wreath to wear on your head. Pin flowers and animal figures onto your clothing. Attach a fake bluebird to your shoulder. Accessorize with “earthy” jewelry. Walk around the party and promote the need for others to treat Mother Earth with respect and kindness.
  • The Can Man or Woman: Go to your Halloween party this year with something to offer all guests. Give them a chance to earn some extra cash, and promote recycling at the same time. Dress up in a black long sleeve shirt and black pants. Attach as many soda cans to your shirt and pants as possible. Add up the dollar value of the cans ($0.05 per can). Throughout the party, ask guests to guess how much you are worth. At the end of the party, award the cash to the guest with the closest guess. Reimburse yourself later when you turn in your cans.
Get creative with costume ideas last minute, and go green. Make your fellow party-goers smile with the good intentions behind your costume. Just be sure they don't try to recycle you at the end of the night!
