Kids Halloween Snacks
Halloween food is always about the candy but doesn't always make for the healthiest Halloween snacks for children. Mix it up this year by making fun kids' Halloween snacks for them to munch on as an after school snack, lunch treat, or dessert. Here some easy Halloween snack ideas for kids to make for your little ghost and goblins.
These scary Halloween snacks are a great alternative to traditional Halloween candy.
- 6 large egg whites
- ½ cup superfine sugar
- Black decorating gel
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Then, in a large mixing bowl using an electric beater to whisk the egg whites until they form stiff peaks. Fold in the sugar slowly while continuing to mix. On a baking sheet, place tablespoon-sized dollops of the meringue about 1 inch apart. Form each meringue ball to look like a ghost. Turn off the oven and put meringues in to cook overnight or for 6 hours. Remove the ghosts and add eyes using the black decorating gel.
Rotting Eyes, Witches Fingers and Severed Toes
If your want to get your kids to eat more veggies during the Halloween season, then these fun Halloween snacks are for you.
- 1 cup baby carrots
- ½ cup black (pitted) olives
- 1 cup blanched green beans or snap peas
- 1 cup favorite vegetable dip (ranch is always a kid favorite)
On a large serving platter place a bowl of dip in the center. Surround it with the baby carrots, olives and green beans. Print out labels that say the Halloween themed names of each vegetable and use a creative name for the dip such as “white slime”. Get even more creative by adding in more types of raw vegetables if you kids are not happy with the ones in this recipe.
These are sweet and easy Halloween snacks for children that work as dessert or lunchtime treats.
- ½ cup chocolate pudding (homemade or store bought)
- 3 Oreo cookies
- Gummy worms
In a parfait glass or clear cup, fill the bottom with half of the chocolate pudding. Crumble the Oreo cookies into small pieces and place about half of the cookie crumbs over the pudding and add a few gummy worms. Repeat using the rest of your ingredients.
Ghost & Bat Cereal Bars
This kids' Halloween snack is a twist on the classic Rice Krispy treat. It is also a terrific recipe that the kids can help to make.
- 1 batch Rice Krispy marshmallow treat mix
- 24 oz. white chocolate
- ½ bags M&M’s (for decorating)
- Ghost and bat cookie cutters
Start by preparing the Rice Krispy treats as directed. When the marshmallow treats are cooked and cooled use the cookie cutters to cut out ghost and bat shapes. Next, in a double boiler or in the microwave, melt the white chocolate. Dip the ghosts and bats in the white chocolate and cover them completely. Use the M&M’s to decorate the ghosts and bats by adding eyes and mouths. Let the bars cool on a baking pan or cooling rack for about one hour or until the chocolate has hardened.
This is a satisfying after-school Halloween snack that children love. These mummy pizzas are great because the kids can help and it can serve as a Halloween themed lunch or dinner.
- 1 plain bagel, sliced
- 1 can tomato sauce or pizza sauce
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 4 sliced black olives
Preheat the oven to 400 degrees. Start to assemble your pizzas by spreading an even amount of sauce on each bagel slice. Arrange the shredded cheese horizontally on the bagel slice to look like wrapped bandages. Top each pizza bagel with two sliced olives to make them look like they have mummy eyes. Bake the mummy pizzas for about 10 minutes or until the cheese is melted.
